Marcus Whitfield, who averaged 31.5 points at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland last season, signed a letter of intent to play at USC. Whitfield, a 6-foot-3 guard, scored 1,407 points in two seasons at Cuyahoga. As a high school senior at Bugard Vocational in Buffalo, N.Y., in 1988-89, he averaged 43.9 points.
