Nine people, including five children, were left homeless when a fire damaged a two-story Pacoima condominium complex, the Los Angeles Fire Department said Friday.
The fire in the 14000 block of Van Nuys Boulevard near Arleta Avenue began at 8:11 p.m. Thursday and was extinguished in about 30 minutes, department spokesman Greg Acevedo said.
The fire began in a barbecue on the balcony of one unit, engulfed that unit and damaged two others, Acevedo said.
No injuries were reported and damage was estimated at $80,000 to the building and another $30,000 to the contents, Acevedo said.
The American Red Cross was called to help the two families burned out of their homes, he said.
