NCR, AT&T; to Speed Up Merger: NCR Corp. and AT&T; said they will expedite the merger of their computer divisions to avoid losing customers and employees. NCR agreed this week to merge with American Telephone & Telegraph Co. in a $7.4-billion stock swap. The main reason for hastening the consolidation “is our determination to deliver on the commitments to the customers of both organizations,” NCR Chairman Charles Exley Jr. said. The legal process leading up to an NCR shareholder vote on the merger will take about four months.
