Philadelphia Phillie outfielder Lenny Dykstra was charged with drunk driving Tuesday after a test showed he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.179 in Monday’s accident that left him and teammate Darren Daulton injured.

Dykstra is hospitalized and expected to miss at least two months with injuries sustainedwhen his new Mercedes hit two trees.

Daulton, a passenger in Dykstra’s Mercedes coming back from teammate John Kruk’s bachelor party, is expected to be out of the lineup 15 days.

Radnor Township police filed charges against Dykstra--driving under the influence, speeding and reckless driving. If convicted, he could face suspension of his license for one year, a $300 fine and 48 hours in jail.

A reconstruction of the accident indicates Dykstra’s car was traveling 47.25 m.p.h. to 53.43 m.p.h. when it hit two trees on a winding road, said Robert Woll, a Radnor police dispatcher. He said the speed limit for the road is 35.

The crash is the latest in a series of incidents that has dogged Dykstra almost from the moment he finished the 1990 season--when he had career-bests in eight offensive categories--and signed a $7.3-million three-year contract.

During the off-season, he came under fire for criticizing the front office’s inability to obtain quality starting pitching.

In spring training, as a witness in a gambling trial in Mississippi it was revealed that he lost $78,000 in poker games. Dykstra was put on probation by baseball Commissioner Fay Vincent.

Dykstra’s injuries include three broken ribs, a broken right collarbone, a heart bruise and a broken right cheekbone.
