Datron Posts 3% Rise in 4th-Quarter Earnings

Datron Systems Inc. in Simi Valley said its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings edged up 3% from a year earlier while its sales surged 51%.

Datron, a maker of communications equipment for the military and industrial markets, said net income in the quarter ended March 31 totaled $1.23 million, up from $1.20 million a year earlier. Its sales jumped to $18.6 million from $12.3 million.

Because of a canceled contract and other problems early in its fiscal year, however, Datron’s profit for the full year was down 45%, to $2.31 million from $4.23 million the previous year. Its annual sales rose 32% to $59.6 million from $45.2 million.
