A May 18 rally in the Rose Bowl to honor troops from the Persian Gulf War has been canceled after the promoter failed to attract major celebrities.
Instead, Pasadena will officially welcome home U.S. troops during Americafest 1991, the city’s July 4 celebration.
“Operation Homecoming,” the event planned by GGE Inc., was to have been a five-hour show with entertainers such as Kevin Costner, Meryl Streep, Sally Field, Mickey Dolenz, Jane Seymour, Mike Tyson and Donny Osmond. But when ex-Monkee Dolenz appeared to be the only entertainer GGE was able to secure, the city decided to drop the event.
The 3 1/2-hour July 4 celebration will begin at 6 p.m. It will include circus and musical acts, fireworks and veterans from World Wars I and II, Korea and Vietnam as well as Operation Desert Storm. Tickets will be $16 and $12 for adults, $8 and $6 for children.
