Harvard Club Team to Begin Defense of Outdoor Water Polo Title

The Harvard Water Polo Foundation club team of Studio City will open defense of its U. S. men’s outdoor title today at Cal State Long Beach. Harvard, seeking its fourth national title, will play Sunset of San Diego at noon.

The top 12 water polo teams in the nation will compete in the three-day, round-robin event, the final of which will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

The tournament should be one of the most competitive in years because many senior national team players will be available to compete.

Harvard, with members Kirk Everist, David Imbernino, Robert Lynn, Alex Rousseau, Terry Schroeder and Craig Wilson, is undefeated this season and is the tournament favorite.

“I don’t know about going undefeated. Our goal is to win the tournament,” said Harvard Coach Rich Corso, a former assistant coach for the U. S. national team.

“Etched in stone is to win each national (tournament). Our secondary goal is to place as many guys on the National/Olympic team as possible.”
