Hughes Microelectronics Gets $35-Million Contract

Hughes Aircraft Co.’s Microelectronics Systems Division in Rancho Santa Margarita said Thursday that it won a $35-million contract from the Navy to build a secure communications system for its ships. The company said the contract, which includes $23.6 million in designated funds plus options for an additional $11.4 million through 1993, calls for the Hughes division to assemble a voice-data communications switch. The contract is a follow-on award to production of switching systems that Hughes has performed for two decades.
