A 16-year-old Escondido youth was killed Tuesday morning when he lost control of his motorcycle on a Ramona highway, an investigator from the County Medical Examiner’s office said.

Bryan Charles Armstrong, described as an Escondido waiter, was traveling east on California 78 when he failed to negotiate a curve just east of Magnolia Avenue in Ramona, said medical investigator Dan Matticks. As the cycle crossed the center divider at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, Armstrong swerved to avoid oncoming traffic, he said.

The teen-ager, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and struck his head on a large boulder, Matticks said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
