Pfizer Inc., New York, has elected its president, William C. Steere Jr., to the additional post of chief executive, effective May 1, to succeed Edmund T. Pratt, Jr., who has said he will step down as CEO after the annual meeting next month. Pratt, who is also chairman, said he plans to retire March 1, 1992.
