Rhone-Poulenc Rorer Wins Appeal: The Ft. Washington, Pa.-based pharmaceutical company said a federal appeals court in California overturned a Feb. 24, 1989, ruling that had invalidated Rhone-Poulenc’s exclusive license of highly purified factor VIII:C, which is derived from human plasma. The patent, owned by Scripps Clinic & Research Foundation, was challenged by Genentech Inc., Miles Inc. and Chiron Corp. VIII:C is a clotting factor used to treat hemophilia.
