OROVILLE, Calif. — A Chico man was sentenced Monday to a year in jail for his role in last May’s Rancho Chico Days rioting.
Superior Court Judge Lloyd Mulkey gave the sentence, the maximum allowed, to Robert Rasmussen, 28, who was convicted last month on misdemeanor charges of assault on a peace officer and rioting.
Rasmussen had been charged with felony assault on a peace officer but jurors convicted him on the misdemeanor charge instead. He was accused of throwing a rock at police.
Rasmussen’s was the first felony trial stemming from the rioting, which took place the weekend of May 4-5.
Ninety-three people were arrested during the festival.
