Paying for War and Peace in Persian Gulf

Cockburn’s column proves once again that he is the only sane commentator in this topsy-turvy world. While other columnists were rushing to join the ranks of war advocates and dancing to the beat of war drums, Cockburn judiciously advised against such folly that will ultimately lead to widespread destruction and the taking of many innocent lives.
The remarkable thing about his columns is his ability to document his data with historical facts. Other journalists, commentators and columnists have failed to do that. Patriotism and supporting one’s country are fine, noble and the ideal thing to do at times like this. Yet writers subscribe to even higher standards, mainly the truth. But as we all know, in the heat of war, truth becomes the first casualty. WILLIAM G. SHAHIN
