WEEKEND TV : Gulf, Kids and the NBA

Shows for kids and a classic series on the civil-rights movement highlight a weekend that is sure to be laden with talk of the Persian Gulf War.
Originating from the Charlotte Coliseum, site of Sunday’s NBA All-Star game, pro basketball stars will stress the importance of education in the “NBA All-Star Stay in School Jamboree,” airing today at 9 a.m. (4)(36)(39) and TNT and at noon on Nickelodeon.
Tonight at 7, the Disney Channel screens “Big Friendly Giant,” an animated film based on a story by Roald Dahl.
Sunday, as part of Black History Month, KCET Channel 28 repeats the 6-part, 6-hour series “Eyes on the Prize” beginning at 1 p.m. The series covers desegregation of schools and buses, college protests, nonviolent marches, slain civil-rights leaders and the 1965 march from Selma to Montgomery, Ala.
And on the Persian Gulf War front, Vice President Dan Quayle is interviewed on “News Conference,” today at 12:30 p.m. on Channel 4, while “American Interests” examines the potential for an Arab backlash against the United States, Sunday at 10 a.m. on Channel 28.
