A Missing Star

The Ahmanson Theatre on Jan. 29 was host to many disappointed people, myself among them. People milled around, demanding ticket refunds, and irate ladies bused in from out of state formed militant bands. We were there with our tickets torn and no advertised product on the horizon.
The reason--Michael Crawford, star of “The Phantom of the Opera,” was not to appear. The theater staff gave glib replies to refund requests. “We do not sell tickets to see Michael Crawford, we sell tickets to performances.” Yet why was the show sold out? Because the Ahmanson had advertised the return of Crawford.
Give us a break, Ahmanson. If this had been a pop concert you wouldn’t have any chairs left now!
