HUNTINGTON BEACH : Bird-Watching Event Will Be Competitive

The Bolsa Chica Conservancy, a Huntington Beach-based environmental organization dedicated to wetlands research and education, is holding a fund-raising activity called a “bird-a-thon” on Friday and Saturday.
Louann Murray, research director for the conservancy, said, “A bird-a-thon works like a jog-a-thon, only instead of pledging a certain amount of money for every mile that a jogger jogs, money is pledged for every species that is sighted in one day by a bird-watching team.”
Murray said the bird-sighting period is between sunset Friday (5:20 p.m.) and sunset Saturday (5:30 p.m.). The bird identification must be done within the Huntington Beach area.
