Pipeline Job Awarded for Greenbelt Project

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power on Thursday awarded a $4-million-plus contract for a pipeline that will deliver 2 million gallons of recycled water a day to two cemeteries, a golf course and Universal Studios.
The so-called Greenbelt Project, scheduled to begin operating by late 1991, will recycle treated effluent from the Los Angeles-Glendale Water Reclamation Plant for watering use only. The water will be sold for $280 an acre-foot, a quantity that would cover a football field to a depth of about one foot. The cost is 20% less than the usual flat rate, DWP spokeswoman Debra Sass said.
Simich-Masanovich of Arcadia won the pipeline contract with its low bid of $4,025,450, Sass said.
Work on the 5-mile-long pipeline is expected to begin next month, Sass said. The pipeline will carry the water from the sewage-treatment plant near the Golden State Freeway to the Lakeside Golf Club, Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Mount Sinai Memorial Park and Universal Studios.
