Unocal Dealers Protest: About 200 Unocal dealers, carrying signs reading “Where’s the Spirit of 76?” and “Murph’s broke,” protested in downtown Los Angeles against prices they are forced to pay for rent, equipment and gasoline. The dealers complained that they must pay as much as 25 cents a gallon more for Unocal gasoline than for “unbranded” gas. Unocal replied that it “understands and sympathizes” with the dealers but that it too is losing money on its marketing operations.
