CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : LONE PINE : 3.4 Temblor Jolts Owens Valley Area

The Owens Valley along the eastern Sierra Nevada was jolted by an earthquake Friday, but no damage was reported, officials said. The magnitude-3.4 temblor struck at 6:22 a.m. and was centered 11 miles south of Lone Pine, said seismologist Rick McKenzie of the UC Berkeley seismographic station. A few residents of Lone Pine, 175 miles north of Los Angeles, called the Inyo County Sheriff’s Department, but none reported damage or injuries.
