Cheney Gives Navy Ultimatum on A-12

WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Dick Cheney has ordered the Navy to justify the A-12 attack plane in three weeks or else kill it, the Pentagon announced Friday night.
Delays, cost growth and management deficiencies in the A-12 “are intolerable,” Cheney said in a directive to Navy Secretary Lawrence Garrett.
“If we cannot spend the taxpayers’ money wisely, we will not spend it,” Cheney said.
The secretary gave the Navy until Jan 4 to justify the plane.
