TV Reviews : Family Approach to a Cleaner Environment

Which are more environmentally friendly: Toothpaste in a pump, or in a tube? A big box of cereal or a small one? A glass bottle of ketchup, or a plastic squeeze bottle?
The answers can be found in “Earth to Kids: A Guide to Products for a Healthy Planet” (at 8 tonight on HBO), an entertaining family special about how to become garbage-conscious consumers. (It also airs Friday, Dec. 19, 24, 29 and 31.)
Hosted by Jim Fyfe, the information-packed half-hour consists of a combination of live-action humor and animated spots, plus interviews with articulate kids.
The focus is positive--what adult and child consumers can do to help clean up the environment. Produced with Consumer Reports, the show does have a negative side: There’s a limit to how many tips can fit in half an hour. How about a series?
