WESTMINSTER — A Midway City woman who was struck Friday night by a pickup truck as she tried to walk across a busy intersection has died, police said.
Helen May Bowden Bender, 48, was crossing Bolsa Avenue at Purdy Street when the 6:09 p.m. accident occurred, Westminster Police Sgt. Bob Amren said.
Bender was in the crosswalk at the intersection, which has no signal or stop sign, Amren said, when the driver of a 1988 blue Chevy pickup failed to see her.
It is not known how fast the truck was traveling when it struck her, Amren said.
Bender was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange with internal injuries. She died at 11:30 p.m., the county coroner’s office said.
The driver, Patrick Vigil, 68, of Westminster, was not cited.
