Bradley Pledges Swift Assistance for Leningrad

Los Angeles will move “as quickly as possible” to organize a program of assistance to Leningrad, Mayor Tom Bradley said Monday. Just back from a visit to Los Angeles’ newest sister city, Bradley said Leningrad is in need of help with modernization.
The aid approach will be similar to that of the Peace Corps and will combine public and private assistance, Bradley said. “They need help from both sectors,” he said.
Such assistance is “nothing new” for Los Angeles, he said, adding that city workers have been sent to help after hurricanes in Puerto Rico and North Carolina and last year’s earthquake in the Bay Area. Workers also have helped with planning matters in Japan and pollution problems in Greece, he said.
