ANAHEIM — Unemployment in Orange County, still at the lowest level among the state’s major job centers, rose to 3.8% last month from 3.3% in August, according to the state Employment Development Department.
The September jobless rate is the county’s highest since January, 1987, when it was 4.1%.
Employment fell as builders delayed starting new projects and stores laid off seasonal workers, the employment department’s labor market analyst, Eleanor Jordan, said.
The department’s report said that 51,600 Orange County residents were out of work in September, compared with 46,200 in August.
