TENNIS ROUNDUP : Lendl Breezes to Victory Over South Korean

HONG KONG — Top seed Ivan Lendl of Czechoslovakia breezed to a 6-0, 6-3 victory over South Korean Kim Bong Soo today for his second victory in preliminary play at the Marlboro Tennis Championships.
In the same group as Lendl, American Kevin Curren defeated Kelly Evernden of New Zealand 6-4, 6-4 for his first win.
Second-seeded Emilio Sanchez of Spain picked up his second victory in the Yellow Group by beating Finland’s Aki Rahunen 6-4, 6-3.
American David Wheaton beat Mark Kratzmann of Australia 6-4, 6-2 for his second Yellow Group victory.
Third-seed Michael Chang of Placentia beat fellow American Brad Pearce, 7-5, 6-4, for his second win in the Gold Group.
At Antwerp, Belgium, Israel’s Amos Mansdorf upset second-seeded Andres Gomez of Ecuador to join American Jim Courier in the quarterfinals of the $1.1 million European Community Championship.
Mansdorf beat Gomez 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) and Courier ousted Swede Magnus Gustafsson 6-3, 6-2.
Top-seeded Gabriela Sabatini reached the quarterfinals of the Porsche Cup tournament at Filderstadt, Germany, by beating fellow Argentine Mercedes Paz 6-2, 6-2.
