Henri Leconte upset third-seeded Brad Gilbert, 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), to join top-seeded Stefan Edberg in the quarterfinals of the European Community Championship in Antwerp, Belgium.
Leconte outlasted Gilbert in a 2 1/2-hour match before 4,000.
At Hong Kong, Michael Chang defeated Sergi Bruguera, 6-3, 6-3, in the Marlboro Championship tournament.
Chang came back from a 3-0 deficit in the first set to defeat Bruguera in 66 minutes.
At Vienna, John McEnroe beat Brian Garrow, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, in the second round of the ATP CA Tennis Trophy.
At Lyon, France, David Pate upset second-seeded Guy Forget, 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), in a first-round match.
