Ocean View and Westminster Tie

WESTMINSTER — Ocean View and Westminster high schools battled to a 20-20 Sunset League tie Friday night, putting a bit of a damper on the homecoming festivities at Westminster High.
Ocean View (4-1-1, 2-0-1) had to rally three times to preserve the deadlock against Westminster (2-3-1, 0-1-1). The third time, a diving catch of a 10-yard Randy Karliner pass by Jeff Bush in the end zone with 6:54 left in the game coupled with Ron Lightner’s conversion, evened the scoring at 20-20.
Westminster opened the scoring with a 64-yard drive culminating on Vance Senteno’s one-yard scoring plunge. Chris Hooten intercepted a pass and returned to the Westminster 37 to set up the first Seahawk score, a one-yard run by Matt Barry with 9:12 left in the second quarter. But Lightner’s conversion kick was wide.
Lion tailback Lucas Jones, who led the Lion offense with 108 yards in 15 carries, put Westminster in the lead with a 58-yard run, but the low snap from center caused the conversion attempt to go awry.
