Opportunistic Sunny Hills Routs Buena Park

BUENA PARK — Sunny Hills, turning two interceptions and a fumble recovery into touchdowns, defeated Buena Park, 33-0, Friday in the teams’ Freeway League opener.
Buena Park (2-4) fell behind, 7-0, with 4:38 left in the first quarter when Sunny Hills’ Joey Montgomery intercepted a pass by quarterback Mark Medellin and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown.
The Lancers’ second touchdown by interception was a 69-yard return by lineman Jeff Hicks with 1:10 remaining in the second quarter.
A third touchdown by Sunny Hills’ defense came with 4:22 remaining in the game after a Coyotes’ flea-flicker play failed. Buena Park reserve quarterback Geno Robles completed a five-yard pass to Juan Guerra, but Guerra’s lateral was grabbed by Brent Howes, who ran 60 yards for a touchdown.
Sunny Hills’ other two touchdowns were scored by the offense. Quarterback Hakeim McKenzie scored on a six-yard keeper with 7:23 remaining in the third quarter and Mike Sullivan scored three minutes later on a 45-yard run.
Sullivan rushed for 93 yards in nine carries for Sunny Hills (3-3).
