PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Orange Lutheran Wins to Earn Share of Title

Orange Lutheran High School won its seventh consecutive game and gained a share of the Olympic League baseball title Friday with a 5-1 victory over Whittier Christian on the final day of the regular season.
Kent Dowding pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts for the victory and has a single-season record 104 strikeouts for Orange Lutheran (18-6, 12-2 in league). Doug Senne had two hits and an RBI and Mic Buehler had an RBI single for Orange Lutheran.
In another Olympic League game:
Santa Margarita 5, Ontario Christian 2--James McGrath (1-2) pitched a six-hitter with six strikeouts for host Santa Margarita (9-11, 6-8). David Nix had a two-run home run and Chris Haiduk had two hits and two RBIs for Santa Margarita.
In the Orange League:
Valencia 3, Brea-Olinda 2--Host Valencia scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead. Justin Jimenez had a two-run single and Shaun Moffet followed with an RBI single for Valencia (10-12, 5-10).
Steve Rewald (4-2) pitched the first four innings for the victory and John Garcia pitched the final three innings for the save. Brea had the bases loaded in the seventh but Garcia got a sacrifice fly and a strikeout to end the game. Brea is 16-8-1, 10-4-1.
Anaheim 6, Magnolia 3--Danny Castro (5-0) pitched five innings for the victory for Anaheim (15-9-1, 9-5-1) at Glover Stadium. Cesar Rojo had two doubles and triple, stole a base and had an RBI for Anaheim.
In the Sunset League:
Ocean View 4, Marina 3--Shortstop Daniel Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring teammate Curtis Bruce with the winning run in the fifth inning for league champion Ocean View (19-7, 13-2).
Each team scored three runs in the first inning. Bruce led off the fifth with a single, stole second, went to third on a single by pitcher Jim Gwaltney and scored on Hernandez’s sacrifice fly. Gwaltney (7-3) pitched a complete game.
Edison 13, Westminster 4--Edison scored eight runs in the bottom of the second inning. James Eidam had a double and a triple and two RBIs, Rocky Balch had two hits and three RBIs, and Donnie Smith had a two-run home run for Edison (18-7, 9-6). Phil Jensen (5-1) pitched seven innings, allowing six hits and five strikeouts, for Edison.
Fountain Valley 7, Huntington Beach 6 (8 innings)--Scott Hiroyasu had a two-run double in the eighth for visiting Fountain Valley and center fielder Darren LaPoint made a diving catch in right-center field with a runner on first for the final out for the Barons (12-14, 7-8). Derek Fahs (4-4) went the distance with nine strikeouts for Fountain Valley.
