More Heat for ‘Bonfire’: The Metropolitan Museum of Art has scrapped a plan to film a major banquet scene for Warner Bros. “The Bonfire of the Vanities” at the museum’s Temple of Dendur. Officials said filmmakers broke the rules by using the museum’s name without permission on invitations sent to about 600 well-heeled potential extras. The museum’s Board of Trustees also felt that publicity from the filming would shift focus away from the museum’s art collection. Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer two weeks ago lashed out at the studio for refusing to include an “acceptable” disclaimer acknowledging the Bronx was not the crime-ridden ghetto portrayed in the movie.
