Latino Group Blasts Academy: NOSOTROS, an organization dedicated to improving the image of Latinos, has criticized the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for not including Hispanics as presenters in this year’s Academy Awards ceremony. “How can the Academy accurately represent the industry when it chooses to overlook such prominent Hispanic-American actors as Edward James Olmos, Raul Julia, Esai Morales, Roanna DeSoto, Andy Garcia” and others, said a letter to Academy President Karl Malden. The group asked that Hispanics be included in future awards shows. Academy officials said several of the stars mentioned were asked to appear, but couldn’t make it.
