WORLD : Japan Balloonists Crash in Tibet

KATMANDU, Nepal — A Japanese expedition attempting the first hot air balloon flight over Mt. Everest crash-landed today on the mountain’s Tibet side, injuring one of the three crew members in a fire and stranding them in a remote area, officials said.
Officials of the Japanese Embassy in Beijing and Nepal’s Ministry of Tourism said Chinese, Japanese and Nepalese authorities were trying to coordinate a rescue effort to the landing site.
