NATION : Luxembourg NATO Envoy Quits; U.S. Suspects Security Breach

LUXEMBOURG — Luxembourg today announced that its ambassador to NATO has resigned and a senior government official said U.S. intelligence suspected that he had passed information to Moscow.
“The CIA has information that he may have given some sort of security information to officials in Moscow,” the senior official said.
The ambassador, Guy De Muyser, 64, a former ambassador to Moscow, had been ambassador to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and to Belgium since March 10, 1986. He was ambassador to Moscow during the early 1980s.
A Luxembourg government official said the CIA alleged that after he left Moscow, De Muyser maintained contacts that were not compatible with his role as ambassador to NATO.
It was not immediately clear if his actions were a serious breach of NATO security.
