Former Gov. Arch Moore pleaded guilty to a five-count corruption indictment, fulfilling terms of an agreement with federal prosecutors. He could face 36 years in prison and fines of up to $1.2 million when he is sentenced July 10 for extortion, mail fraud, tax fraud and obstruction of justice. The 67-year-old maverick Republican, who served three four-year terms as governor, agreed to plead guilty after prosecutors said they had secretly recorded a meeting in which Moore admitted receiving illegal cash donations during his 1988 campaign.
