A motorist was shot while stopped at an intersection early Tuesday and managed to drive his car several hundred yeards before he died, crashing the vehicle into a cemetery, authorities said.
Ramon Gomez, 42, of Bell was believed to have been shot about 7:10 a.m. by either by a passenger who fled or by a pedestrian who opened the door of the victim’s car at Gage and Garfield avenues in Bell Gardens, Sheriff’s Homicide Lt. Bill Christiansen said.
“He then actually drove about 300 or 400 yards,” crashing through a chain-link fence and onto the grounds of Mt. Carmel Cemetery on East Gage Avenue, Christiansen said.
Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene of a head wound. Police had not determined a motive for the slaying late Tuesday.
