COSTA MESA : Bar Gets 60-Day Dancing Permit

Patrons can continue to dance at Hogue Barmichael’s Bar, a popular Costa Mesa establishment, for at least another 60 days.
The City Council voted 3-2 Monday to extend the bar’s “public entertainment” permit, which allows Hogue Barmichael’s to play live or recorded music for public dancing.
Officials had originally refused to renew the bar’s entertainment permit, which expired March 15, citing insufficient parking. Officials said Hogue Barmichael’s must obtain a conditional use permit for its patrons to use the parking spaces next to the bar’s parking lot.
Customers currently use parking spaces of two businesses adjacent to Hogue Barmichael’s, as they have been doing for nearly a decade, the bar’s owner said.
“We’ve been doing this for nine years,” Jules P. Boryczewskitold the council, referring to the parking situation. “Now all of a sudden we need a conditional use permit.”
Boryczewski must go before the council again in 60 days to request the proper permits.
