NEW YORK — Pan American World Airways Inc. has signed a five-year, $40-million agreement for American Telephone & Telegraph Co. to provide computer equipment for the airline.
AT&T; computers of the 6386/SX and 6386/25 lines will be installed to upgrade Pan Am’s computerized operations at airports, administrative offices and reservation centers worldwide, the carrier said.
“Installation of the AT&T; systems at about 100 locations will form the foundation for what we call the airport of the future,” said Robert Wagner, Pan Am’s vice president of information services.
The airline plans to automate every transaction involving passengers and travel accommodations, including ticketing, luggage handling, boarding and services such as car rentals.
