FRESNO — Cal State Fresno--in the first such pact within the California State University system--has signed a faculty exchange agreement with a Soviet university.
Cal State Fresno President Harold Haak and two officials of the Byelorussian V. I. Lenin State University in Minsk signed the agreement Monday on the Fresno campus.
Haak said the pact could eventually pave the way for the two universities to exchange faculty members for research and teaching, exchange of students, trade of educational, teaching and research materials and international conferences and seminars.
“I never thought I’d live long enough to see this open exchange of views with a Soviet university,” Haak said. “It is terribly significant socially and educationally.”
