Another Plea for Sewage Plant Waiver
On June 11, the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts will get another chance to argue for a federal waiver that would exempt its giant sewage plant in Carson from tighter treatment standards.
The hearing, to be held by the federal Environmental Protection Agency in Torrance City Hall starting at 1 p.m., concerns the EPA’s tentative rejection Jan. 30 of the districts’ formal request for a waiver.
The districts are seeking an exemption from federal regulations requiring more intensive treatment of the 365 million gallons of effluent pumped daily from the Carson plant into the ocean waters off the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
