PREP BASKETBALL / STATE PLAYOFFS : Mater Dei Faces Manual Arts in Region Semifinal

The State high school basketball tournament moves into the second round tonight with 20 Southern Regional semifinal games headed by a boys’ Division I showdown between Manual Arts (27-3) and Santa Ana Mater Dei (31-1) at 7:30 at Chapman College in Orange.

In the other Division I semifinal, top-seeded Long Beach Poly (27-2) will play Lynwood (31-2) in a rematch of the Southern Section 5-AA final at Long Beach City College.

DIVISION II--Oceanside El Camino (23-6) at Artesia (26-2); Visalia Mt. Whitney (20-6) vs. Glendora (27-5) at Cal Poly Pomona.

DIVISION III--Dos Pueblos (17-13) vs. Estancia (21-9); Corona del Mar (20-10) at Servite (18-11).

DIVISION IV--Laguna Beach (23-6) at Santa Clara (25-0); Verbum Dei (15-13) vs. Santa Maria St. Joseph (21-7) at Hancock College at 8:30 p.m.

DIVISION V--Faith Baptist (20-10) vs. La Canada Ribet Academy (26-2) at La Canada High; Paramount Brethren (20-9) vs. El Cajon Christian (17-11) at El Cajon Granite Hills High.

In girls action:

DIVISION I--San Diego Mt. Carmel (23-5) at Morningside (29-3); Fresno Clovis West (26-1) vs. Washington (28-3) at Gardena High.

DIVISION II--La Quinta (28-3) at San Diego Pt. Loma (28-3); Ventura (20-10) at Muir (27-5).

DIVISION III--Lemoore (21-7) at Brea-Olinda (31-0); Costa Mesa (18-11) at Palos Verdes (28-5).

DIVISION IV--Holtville (19-9) vs. Santa Maria St. Joseph (26-3) at Hancock College in Santa Maria; Santa Ynez (23-3) at Tollhouse Sierra (26-1).
