WASHINGTON — House investigators will seek a grant of immunity for a one-time aide of Samuel R. Pierce Jr., seeking testimony that Pierce made politically tainted contract awards as housing secretary in the Reagan Administration, sources said today.
The former Department of Housing and Urban Development official, Dubois Gilliam, is serving a federal prison sentence for a conviction in a HUD-related case.
The sources said the employment and housing panel of the Government Operations Committee will ask a federal court to grant Gilliam immunity from prosecution for any crimes he might discuss during congressional testimony.
