AS YOU WERE: There’s always a local angle, and in the case of the Virginia Military Institute, under fire for continuing its 150-year policy of excluding women, the angle is Orange County’s most famous VMI grad. . . . That would be Supervisor Thomas F. Riley (above, class of ‘35) and still a strong alumni contributor. . . . Riley said he understands the women’s arguments but added: “I have some difficulty imagining them changing the policy and still keeping the true spirit of VMI.” Besides, says the man known around county corridors as “The General,” the current VMI barracks situation isn’t conducive to co-ed habitation.
