ON THE SIDELINES : Nakayama Wins Tokyo Marathon

TOKYO — Japan’s Takeyuki Nakayama, running in his first marathon since hurting an ankle in last April’s Boston Marathon, comfortably beat Ireland’s John Treacy and Ethiopia’s Belayneh Dinsamo on Monday in the Tokyo International Marathon.

Nakayama ran alone most of the way, easing up over the last seven miles, and finished the 26 miles, 385 yards through Tokyo streets in 2 hours, 10 minutes, 57 seconds.

Treacy, the 1984 Olympic bronze medalist, was second in 2:11:23, and Dinsamo was third in 2:11:32, well behind his world best 2:06:50 when he won the 1988 Rotterdam Marathon.
