SOUTHLAND : City Panel OKs Malathion Suit
- Share via
A Los Angeles City Council panel endorsed a plan today to file suit against the state in an effort to stop the aerial bombardment of malathion in the battle against the Mediterranean fruit fly.
Saying state health and agriculture officials had failed to prove the pesticide being sprayed over heavily populated areas was safe to residents, the council’s Arts, Health and Humanities Committee unanimously approved the move to file a lawsuit.
The committee, chaired by Councilman Joel Wachs, also directed Deputy City Atty. Keith Pritzker to contact neighboring cities such as Pasadena, Burbank, Glendale and West Hollywood about joining the legal action.
