GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Kennedy Loses Big Lead but Wins Anyway

Kennedy High School lost an 18-point lead after three quarters but managed to defeat Los Amigos, 57-55, in a Garden Grove League girls’ basketball game Friday.
Kennedy put reserve players into the game and stopped using a full-court press and Los Amigos outscored Kennedy, 22-6, in the fourth quarter.
Guards Michelle Harris and Valerie Ruiz each had 19 points and combined to make 12 steals for host Kennedy (11-10, 7-4).
May Ly had nine of her 21 points in the fourth quarter for Los Amigos, which dropped to 5-6 in league.
In other Garden Grove League games:
La Quinta 73, Santiago 17--Amy Jalewalia had 31 points, 13 rebounds and six steals, and Heather Brannan had 27 points, nine rebounds and four steals to lead La Quinta (20-2, 11-0), which won its 51st consecutive league game. Jodi Cole had no points but had seven rebounds and seven assists for La Quinta. Becky Elcock had 11 of Santiago’s 17 points.
Rancho Alamitos 62, Garden Grove 42--Jenny Newsome had 24 points for Rancho Alamitos (15-3, 9-2) at home. Shellie Tsuji added 12 and Melinda Lira had 11 for Rancho Alamitos. Melanie Dear scored 12 for Garden Grove (6-5 in league). Garden Grove led, 13-3, after the first quarter and 22-19 at the half. But Rancho Alamitos outscored Garden Grove, 23-8, in the third quarter.
