Huntington Beach Cager Picks Loyola; Michigander Expected to Sign Too

Loyola Marymount basketball Coach Paul Westhead, looking to replace four graduating players, has signed guard Greg Evans out of Huntington Beach Ocean View High and hopes to receive a letter of intent from Ross Richardson of Flint, Mich., by the end of the week.
Evans, 6-foot-2, averaged 10.6 points and three assists as a junior and was impressive this summer in the annual Superstar Camp, where he was named one of the top 15 performers. He was named to the second team of the preseason Best of the West survey of coaches in the Western United States by the Long Beach Press Telegram.
Evans, who also visited Colorado State and Seton Hall, canceled other planned visits and signed with Loyola on the first day of the early signing period. Evans is projected as a point guard.
Richardson, a 6-6 guard/forward, reportedly signed as well but his letter had not arrived on campus from Michigan by Thursday.
Westhead hopes to sign at least one more player in the early period, which ends Wednesday.
