Hurricane Hugo Relief

The East and West San Gabriel Valley chapters of the American Red Cross have joined the nationwide effort to rush aid to victims of Hurricane Hugo.
Responding to a trail of devastation stretching from South Carolina to Puerto Rico last week, the American Red Cross launched its biggest disaster relief effort in two decades, providing emergency shelters, food, clothing and medical supplies.
Nevertheless, “it’s better that you send money,” said Gennie Mackenzie, administrative assistant for the West San Gabriel Valley chapter. “If you give us food and clothing, it just means extra expense” because the Red Cross would have to ship them, she said.
Checks should be mailed to the West San Gabriel Valley chapter at 17 South 1st St., Alhambra, CA 91801 (Information: 818-289-4414), or the East San Gabriel Valley chapter at 1838 E. Workman Ave., West Covina, CA 91791. (Information: 818-331-8266).
All contributions designated for Hurricane Hugo Relief will be used exclusively to help its victims.
