Survey Didn’t Ask If Birds Should Die
As a resident of Manhattan Beach, I was asked in a recent survey if the pond at Polliwog Park should be repaired (Times, Sept. 22). Yes I replied, a deeper pond with a proper circulation system would greatly enhance the park, but also give the ducks and wildfowl cleaner waters to swim in. However, the survey did not ask us if we were willing to kill several dozen birds to do so. Had the survey mentioned destroying the ducks, I for one would have said absolutely not!
I’m appalled! They had no right. It was completely inhumane. Those ducks belonged to all of us. We enjoyed them. We fed them. We watched them grow. How do I reason to my children why the city has killed them?
