President Hosni Mubarak began a foreign tour to promote Egypt’s campaign for direct talks between Palestinians and Israelis. Mubarak, who has received backing from PLO leader Yasser Arafat for his proposals, went to a summit meeting of the four-nation Arab Cooperation Council in Yemen before going on to France and the United States. During his U.S. visit starting Thursday, Mubarak will meet with President Bush as well as with visiting Israeli Foreign Minister Moshe Arens and Labor Party leader Shimon Peres.
