Public-radio jazz station KLON-FM (88.1) is aggressively going after jazz aficionados who may be turned off by the addition of classical music to longtime commercial jazz station KKGO-FM. KLON is advertising that “if you tuned in for Brubeck, but got Brahms . . . remember you haven’t lost a jazz station, you’ve only lost the commercials.” This week, the requests for KLON program guides have jumped from 10 calls a day to 75, a nice turn of events for the station, since it starts a fund-raising drive Saturday. KLON is also about to send off yet another proposal to the FCC seeking a power increase.
